Honestly, I have never been to a festival myself due to never camping in my life (shocking, right?!) and I have never really been a fan on standing on grass listening to live music, but I have seen pictures of the fashion and I absolutely adore the floral, shorts, and the kimono look!
To me, I would rather listen to music at home where I can relax, but one day I do hope to have that experience of dressing in festival gear, and seeing what all the fuss is all about - life experience, new ones, are a must!
Enjoy this post!
Festival fashion around the world
From Glastonbury to Coachella, it is well known that festivals aren’t only about music. Even at Woodstock, whether you want to admit it or not, it was important what are you wearing. Your festival outfit should reflect the atmosphere of the event, the music you like and who you are. No matter on what side of the world are you, you definitely can be a true show-stopper when walking down the musical catwalk. I was wondering though, is the fashion on different parts of the world not alike to the boho style we usually see on Coachella and similar events? As it turns out, it’s not. Every different area has some signature look, and I’ve enjoyed researching about them, and can’t wait to try some of them.
USA’s boho chic
As for the festival fashion in the New World, we should look no further than above mentioned Coachella. It is pretty much the uncrowned king of festival fashion in the continent. The dusty desert where the festival takes place is a true inspiration for bohemian chic that is Coachella’s favorite. Floppy sun hats, flowers in the hair, colorful patterned clothes, maxi skirts, jumpsuits and Native Americans motive inspired clothes, are a must when visiting a festival in North America. Fringes and lace are also dominating this musical runway.
Europe’s retro style
As it is appropriate for the Old continent the fashion at its festivals are usually a blast from the past, and combination of retro and modern. In Europe I would say Glastonbury, UK, it the my favorite when it comes to festival fashion, with its polka dots, denim, polo, hunter boots, floral prints and vintage accessories.
South/Central America’s colours
What I could tell by watching images from festivals in South/Central America, colors are in, and it is all pretty similar to USA fashion. But then comes my favorite, Rock in Rio, which has also had several awesome installments around the world. It’s leather time! Basically, all of the outfits on this festival were screaming “It’s r’n’r baby!” I like the consistency in fashion and the way how the clothes goes well with the genre of music and with the general vibe.
Australia’s extravagancy
Australia’s musical catwalk of the year is Parklife, the festival which was cool before it was cool to be cool, or something like that. Extravagant prints, neon clashing colors, vibrant patterns, useless big glasses, bow ties and plenty of attitude – these are just a small part of the eye-catching things you can see. One more thing that is a huge hit at Australian festivals are graphic tees, so if you want to go for this look, it’s quite easy, especially with companies that deal with promotional clothing, and you can get a bunch of graphic tees for a fraction of the price of the store-bought ones.
On the other side, Asia and Africa are filled with bright colors, light fabrics and bold accessories. It’ some sort of boho style mixed with ethnic elements, and I’m loving it. Can’t wait to steal some of those looks. As you see, fashion is different in all parts of the world, but what connects us all is the love for music and this awesome experience of festivaling.
